Custodians

Custodians are responsible for the upkeep of a large building such as an office or a school. The term janitor and custodian is actually interchangeable. Most people don’t realize what goes into keeping a building clean and well maintained. Or, they don’t realize it until something goes wrong. Custodians are the unsung heroes in a way. They are the ones that take care of things so that people can have a pleasant working, learning, or living environment.

There are a lot of things that custodians are responsible for. They are the ones that make sure the place is as clean as it can be. They also repair any problems and help keep up with the basic maintenance such as replacing any light bulbs that may have gone dead. When it comes to custodians, they deserve a lot of respect and gratitude. Unfortunately, their job takes place so far behind the scenes that they don’t usually get the gratitude that they need.

Custodians can actually get paid a good amount of money for what they do, especially if they are the manager. But if you want to be a custodian, there are several things you can do to get a job. First is look in the newspaper or online to see if there are any jobs advertised. It is one of those positions that might be overlooked and there are jobs available. Most people already have most of the skills needed to be custodians and people can work their way up from grunt work and cleaning to manager work if the building is big enough.

If you have a custodian, why not do something special to make them feel appreciated? People who work in business often overlook them. But, job satisfaction will improve if you own a company and you pay tribute to people who keep the place running. Without custodians who would replace the light bulbs when they burn out? Who would start the generator during a power failure or mop the floor when it gets dirty? If you want to make them feel special, just giving them some recognition and saying thank you is probably enough. But if you give your other workers bonuses, including them in that will also improve their morale.
